It's a journey - gird up the loins!

This post is an analysis of the scriptures found in 1Peter 1v1-15

Peter commences by greeting his fellow believers but ensures that he reinforces a couple key points for them.

  1. They are the Elect of according to the foreknowledge of God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ through the sanctification of the Spirit
  2. How they got there was two fold (1) by their obedience and (2) the crucifixion of Jesus Christ
In the context of the scripture it basically meant anyone who was obedient to the scriptures by believing on the crucified elect would be purified by the Spirit. This purification is not a metaphorical purification but those who have experienced the moving of the consuming fire can testify that this power does a physical cleansing of the body, mind & soul. Seriously! You will never be the same again! (Hebrews 9v14)

Peter then speaks of the promise that we have an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you.

The elected ones are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time.

Even though now we may be in a period of heaviness because of many temptations, that trial of our faith is much more precious than gold that perishes even though it really is being tested. Trust mi! What we have IS worth more than gold!

There is one main point I want to elaborate on, girding up the loins of your mind. According to the Strong's concordance, the term loins describes where the Hebrews thought the regenerative power (semen) resided and the term gird originated from Orientals (asians) who would securely fasten their long flowing garments before they went on a long journey so it wouldn't get in the way.

In a nutshell, the apostle Paul is admonishing us to be protective of the regenerative part of our life (our mind), it is with our mind we serve the law of God (Romans 7v25) and that we should have a determination that no matter what comes i'm in this journey we're in it for the long haul, standing on the faith of Jesus.

My hope is that we will all gird the loins of our mind and continue to retain & love truth!

Jeremiah said in Jer 15v16 - Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by thy name, O LORD God of hosts.

I can find no analogy to explain what the Word of God feels like to a hungry soul. If you've ever been hungry before and then finally after a long wait you get some food, joyous occasion right? When we're not hungry, it's not as exciting.

Jesus implores us to thirst and hunger for righteousness (matthew 5v6), and i'd like to encourage us by extension to eat the word of the Lord, eat it like you'd suck that julie mango seed white because of the bliss it provides.

I'd like to liken God to a chef (with no intention to belittle Him) and the word of God like various foods. 66 different food groups which if he served them the same way we'd be bored to eat, but like a master chef, when he realises that we have acquired the taste for a particular meal, he prepares others (sometimes using the same food combinations) as long as we continue to hunger for a fresh meal every day.

What's even nicer when the chef comes and eats with you, Jesus supped with his disciples, chilled out at the beach with them while eating honeycombs. He desires to supp with us but do we have time to sit at the table and discuss our day with him, or do we just want a microwavable meal to be eaten in front of the TV?

He's such a wonderful chef, imagine you're on a tough walk through a wilderness, you're hungry, you're thirsty and then out of nowhere, there's a table spread in the wilderness (Psalm 78v19) all spring water from a rock if you please! The Lord shall supply all our needs according to His riches in glory...if God is putting streets of gold in heaven...streets of gold!!! what is it for him to provide money to buy a house in Golden Triangle?

The reason we don't trust Him is because we don't know Him!

I've been through enough to know he'll be enough for me.

These were the words given to the children of the most High. God has already taken us through so many things, so for us to start doubting him now would be ludicrous. His track record is impeccable, he's never made a promise that He can't keep and he did promise to keep our souls from the arrow that flieth by day or even the noisome pestilence.

Let's put our trust in him today for he is not slack concerning His promises.

It's better to be a door keeper in the house of the Lord than to dwell in the tents of the wicked (Psalms 84v10).
I've always heard that scripture and never has it really come forcefully to me like tonight. After feeling down and tired on sunday morning (I missed church), I went to church in the night.

I got there so late though, so I sat at the door, the presence of God was so awesome, I was revived, touched and got to throw away my Babylonish garment. Jesus is a merciful God.

The message tonight by sister jennifer anderson was so appropriate, we need to pray and acknowledge our sins before God before we cause someone else to get hurt and kill ourselves in the process. I can tell you, it's a wonderful thing to be in the house of the Lord, and just shaking the hands of the saints was a real blessing for me. God bless!!!
